University’s: The program goals of the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Communications are strongly focused on providing our students with the oral, written, technical and critical thinking skills that are necessary for them to function effectively in the professional world and their personal lives. Learning outcomes for the degree relate to the teaching of communication skills and practices that extend across different communication contexts. The learning outcomes listed here are built upon the core competencies that are inherent in each course required for the degree.

My understanding: Studying Communications has really helped me grow as a speaker, writer, and team member. Over time, I’ve learned how to express my ideas more clearly, use technology related to the field, and think critically about the messages I share. These skills have prepared me to handle real-world communication challenges in both professional and personal settings.

• Effectively speak in public settings.
• Apply advanced decision-making processes within groups.
• Negotiate and collaborate effectively.

My interpretation: Oral Communication
I’ve become more confident speaking in front of others and contributing to group discussions. I know how to communicate clearly, make decisions collaboratively, and adjust my tone for different audiences. My second year I took Effective public speaking, which helped me be able to give class presentations as well as be able to talk clearly.
