CMM 216
Course Description:
Sports Field Production is a filmmaking course designed to cover a variety of theoretical and technical concepts throughout an entire academic semester. Although digital video will play an integral role within the course, the primary goal will be to develop, cultivate, and explore the various ways to effectively share stories, all under a sports, and/or athletic umbrella. Through a series of in-class projects and presentations beginning with a novice level of assignments and building throughout the semester to more advanced assignments, students will gain the knowledge necessary to produce aesthetically pleasing, thought-provoking digital video content. Class content will have a balance between the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking. Through in-depth critiques and hands-on presentations, students will be introduced to the technical knowledge necessary that will allow them to pursue their creative endeavors. To successfully utilize each class period, attentiveness, communication, and participation will be vital. Through all presentations, tutorials, critiques, and hands on assignments, questions and comments are encouraged, however each student’s full attention is expected throughout the entire class and any outside discussion is not permitted. Since Video Field Production will be a project-oriented course, certain classes offered each week will often be utilized as workshop-style and technical support for on-going projects. Attendance will still be mandatory; as students will be expected to take full advantage of the technical skills learned within each class and implement them within their creative projects to the best of their ability.
